FARMINGTON, Utah (May 9, 2022) – Montana State's Trey Morris was named the 2022 Big Sky Men's Tennis Coach of the Year on Monday as voted on by the league's head coaches.
The Coach of the Year honor is the first for Montana State since Jared Burnham won the award in 2013 and the sixth all-time for the men’s tennis program.
Morris and the Bobcats earned an 18-8 record overall, while going 7-1 in league play to earn a share of the program's first regular-season crown since 2013. The 18 wins overall in 2022 were also the most for the program since 2005's team won 19 matches. The Bobcats advanced to the conference championship match for the first time since 2006, but were denied the title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament after Idaho defeated Montana State 4-3.
The Bobcats also broke into the national team rankings this spring for the first time in 15 years, and two different doubles teams spent time nationally ranked. MSU's Nathan Jamieson and Matej Panik earned the program's second appearance ever in the NCAA Individual Championships for doubles, as the pair will compete later this month.
