Northern Arizona Claims 10th Women’s All-Sports Trophy

The institution, nestled in the heart of Flagstaff, claimed Big Sky titles in women’s cross country, women’s indoor track and field, women’s outdoor track and field, women’s golf and both regular season and tournament titles for women’s tennis

FARMINGTON, Utah (May 24, 2022) – The Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona have claimed their 10thall-time Big Sky Conference Women’s All-Sports Trophy, celebrating an incredible year of success across all women’s sports. 
 
The institution, nestled in the heart of Flagstaff, claimed Big Sky titles in women’s cross country, women’s indoor track and field, women’s outdoor track and field, women’s golf and both regular season and tournament titles for women’s tennis. 
 
NAU’s women’s basketball team finished the regular season tied for fourth in the standings but charged all the way to the Big Sky Conference Championship Game, where the Lumberjacks ultimately fell to Montana State in a hard-fought battle.
 
Additionally, the Lumberjacks finished tied for third on the women’s soccer table and tied for fourth in the women’s volleyball standings.  
 
NAU saw a lot of success individually as well. 
 
On the tennis front, Gina Dittmann was named the Big Sky Most Valuable Player and earned All-Big Sky First Team honors in singles and doubles play following another successful season on the court. 
 
Taryn O’Neill was the Big Sky individual XC champion, running the 5K course in 16:31.6, leading the ‘Jacks to their league title. 
 
At the Big Sky Women’s Golf Championships NAU’s Ekaterina Malakhova claimed the league’s individual title all while leading the program to its first team title since 2015. 
 
NAU is now the two-time defending champions of the Big Sky All-Sports Trophy, while winning four of the past five trophies handed out.
