Nation-Leading Marks Headline Weekly Outdoor Track & Field Honors

Outdoor Track & Field action heats up across the Big Sky Conference as four student-athletes are honored for their performances

FARMINGTON, Utah (March 21, 2022) – The first full weekend of Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track & Field is in the books, with nation-leading marks highlighting the first round of the league’s annual Athlete of the Week awards.
 
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week – Lucy Corbett, Montana State
 
Montana State’s Lucy Corbett currently has the best women’s high jump in the NCAA, clearing 6-1.25 (1.86m) to also break her own school record, and also earning herself Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honors.
 
This also marks the second-best jump in Big Sky Conference history, behind only Amber Welty of Idaho State, who cleared a 6-3.50.
 
Corbett hit that height at the Franson Classic hosted by Azusa Pacific on Saturday.
 
She also had a wind-legal long jump of 19-6.75 (5.96,) to rank her 20th in the country.

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week – Duncan Hamilton, Montana State
 
With a Big Sky leading time of 8:43.32 in the men’s 3K steeplechase, which is also the best mark in the NCAA to this point, Montana State’s Duncan Hamilton has been named Men’s Track Athlete of the Week.
 
He took first at the Franson Classic, which paced him ahead of four additional Big Sky athletes that competed in the event this weekend that ended up in the NCAA top-10.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week – Elise Stearns, Northern Arizona
 
Running the 12th-fastest women’s 1,500-meter in the NCAA this season has earned Northern Arizona’s Elise Stearns Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honors.
 
Stearns ran a 4:25.30 at the Baldy Castillo Invitational, where she paced a group of Lumberjacks to an impressive finish.
 
She is also ranked No. 5 in the NCAA West Region.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week – Evan Stork, Sacramento State
 
With a strong performance at his home event over the weekend, Sacramento State’s Evan Stork has been named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.
 
Stork broke his own school record and finished first in the hammer throw at the Hornet Invitational on Saturday. The senior threw 216-00 (65.84m) to win the event by an amazing 34-feet, 7-inches.
 
His throw also broke his previous school record of 212-10 which was set at last season's Big Sky Championships. Stork currently leads the Big Sky and ranks 11th in NCAA Div. I in the event.
