FARMINGTON, Utah (October 22, 2021) – Thanks to a schedule change between Montana and Montana State, this upcoming season’s second ‘Brawl of the Wild’ men’s basketball matchup will air live on ESPNU.
Originally slated to be played a day earlier, the Griz now will host the Bobcats on Sunday, February 27, 2022, inside Dahlberg Arena. Tipoff in Missoula is scheduled for 3 p.m. MT on the premier sports provider’s linear network.
Due to COVID-19 complications, the two programs did not play during the 2020-21 season. They last met on February 22, 2020, where UM claimed victory over MSU, 59-54.
Montana holds a 153-148 lead in the all-time series history, and has an advantage of 95-48 in Missoula. Each team has played the other more than any other team in the NCAA, and are currently engaged in the fifth-longest running series in college basketball.
Both teams are also led by alumni who claimed Big Sky titles as members of the program in Montana’s Travis DeCuire and Montana State’s Danny Sprinkle. They were both also former All-Big Sky players for their respective institutions.
The league office announced yesterday that Montana State and Montana were picked third and fourth, respectively, in the Big Sky Preseason Polls.
As part of the Big Sky’s landmark agreement with ESPN, at least one men’s basketball game per season is scheduled to air on ESPNU, with the network having the option to add more games at a later date.
The move will also allow the Montana-Montana State women’s game to be played in primetime Saturday evening on ESPN+, as that contest will now tip at 7 p.m. MT.
On November 4, streaming on ESPN+, fans can tune into the Big Sky Basketball Tipoff and hear a full preview of both programs, as well as the other nine the league has to offer.
