FARMINGTON, Utah (May 13, 2025) – The Big Sky’s best will be on display this week in Sacramento, California, as Sacramento State hosts the 2025 Outdoor Track & Field Championships from May 14-17 at Hornet Stadium.
Lumberjack Women Aim for Five-Straight
Dating back to the 2021 championship meet in Ogden, Utah, the Northern Arizona women’s outdoor track and field team have claimed every available Big Sky Conference title.
During that run, they posted team scores of 244 (a conference record) and 240.5 hung last year in Bozeman.
This will be Mike Smith’s final Big Sky Championship as the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field at Northern Arizona University.
Bobcat Men Seeking Repeat
After winning the 2024 title at home in Bozeman, Montana State’s men’s outdoor track and field team will be looking to go back-to-back this weekend.
Prior to MSU’s title last season, the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks had claimed three-consecutive titles from 2021-23.
Re-Writing the Record Books
A number of conference records went down this season on the women’s side, with one athlete taking down two on her own.
Northern Arizona’s Maggi Congdon now holds the Big Sky record in the outdoor 800-meter (2:00.27) and 1,500-meter (4:07.23) going into this weekend.
The Lumberjacks also set new standards in the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter with Karrie Baloga (15:24.38) and Elise Stearns (32:33.18) claiming those respective thrones.
Montana State’s Sydney Brewster is now the Big Sky’s all-time best shot putter, throwing a 56’ 8” this season.
Hosting Hornets
The hosts, Sacramento State, claimed their last women’s title in 2019 and most recent men’s title in 2017.

The meet will be streamed on ESPN+ all four days of competition. Events will start at 10 a.m PT on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Competition on Friday will begin at 12 p.m. PT.
