Weekly Honors Announced for Dec. 16-18

FARMINGTON, Utah (Dec. 16, 2024) – The Big Sky Conference announced weekly honors for women’s basketball, men’s basketball and indoor track & field as the December calendar rolls along.  

Big Sky Women's Player of the Week (Dec. 17, 2024)

Player of the Week: Marah Dykstra, Montana State (F, Jr., Cancouver, British Columbia) 
 
Marah Dykstra led MSU with a game-high 20 points (16 in first half) as the Bobcats defeated Florida Gulf Coast University 58-49 on Monday. The win snapped FGCU’s 37- game home court win streak which was the second longest active run in the nation. FGCU was also ranked #5 in CollegeInsider.com Mid Major poll. Dykstra connected on 9-15 and added seven rebounds and three assists.

Big Sky Men's Player of the Week (Dec. 17, 2024)

Co-Player of the Week: Langston Reynolds, Northern Colorado (G, Jr., Denver, Colo.)
Following an impressive double-double performance against Air Force, Northern Colorado’s Langston Reynolds has been named Big Sky Men’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week. Reynolds had 23 points and 11 rebounds against the Falcons, shooting 8-of-11 from the field and 7-of-9 from the free throw line. This is Reynolds’ second career Big Sky weekly honor, and second of the season.
 
Co-Player of the Week: Miguel Tomley, Weber State (G, Sr., Surrey, British Columbia)
After securing a Weber State victory over Utah Tech right before the buzzer, Wildcat Miguel Tomley has been named Co-Player of the Week. Tomley finished with 21 points and drained three triples against UTU. It was his sixth game in double figures this season and his second time scoring 20 or more points. This is Tomley’s first weekly honor from the Big Sky. He was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team prior to the start of the 2024-25 campaign. Tomley transferred to Weber State by way of Idaho State.

Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week (Dec. 18, 2024)

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week: Maddy Shekhawat, Eastern Washington (Jr., Jaipur, India)
In his first meet with Eastern Washington, Maddy Shekhawat burst onto the scene with a school record time in the 60-meter hurdles resulting in a Men’s Track Athlete of the Week title. Shekhawat ran a 7.85 at the 2024 Spokane Invitational, setting the bar in the Big Sky to this point of the season.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week: Digby Marshall, Northern Colorado (So., Denver, Colo.)
With the best long jump mark in the Big Sky thus far, Northern Colorado’s Digby Marshall has been named Men’s Field Athlete of the Week. Marshall had a jump of 6.92m (22’ 8.5”) at the UCCS Invitational to set the current Big Sky standard.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week: Eliza Smith, Weber State (Jr., South Jordan, Utah)
With a top-10 all-time Weber State mark in the women’s 60-meter hurdles, Eliza Smith has been named Women’s Track Athlete of the Week. Smith ran an 8.80 at the BYU December Invitational to find herself in the school record book.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week: Egypt Simmons, Eastern Washington (RSr., King George, Va.)
Breaking two Eastern Washington school records has earned Egypt Simmons the Big Sky’s Women’s Field Athlete of the Week title. In the long jump, she finished first with a leap of 6.12m (20’ 1”) and second in the triple with a jump of 12.89m (42’ 3.50”). She is currently ranked seventh in the nation in long jump and tied fourth in the triple jump.
