Sacramento State Named Women’s and Men’s Golf Favorites

The Hornets are led by three-time Big Sky Conference Player of the Year Jennifer Koga

FARMINGTON, Utah (Jan. 17, 2023) – The Sacramento State Hornets have been named favorites to claim both women’s and men’s titles this April as the Big Sky Conference office has revealed the results of its Golf Coaches’ Polls.

The Hornets are the Big Sky Conference defending champions on the women’s side, as they set the lowest 54-hole championship score (856) in league history before carding the best performance in a NCAA Regional the league had ever seen to close out 2023.

Sac State also claimed the Big Sky’s ’54 for IX’ women’s golf tournament last fall, shooting a school record 17-under 847 (280, 288, 279) en route to victory.

The Hornets are led by three-time Big Sky Conference Player of the Year Jennifer Koga and defending Big Sky Individual Champion Caitlin Maurice.

Rounding out the top-three in the women’s poll, Northern Arizona has been tabbed second with Weber State slated third.

On the men’s side, Sacramento State has been tabbed to finish first amongst the four-team field. The Hornets last won the Big Sky in 2021.

The defending champion Northern Colorado Bears were picked second.

This season, the Big Sky Conference Women’s and Men’s Golf Championships will take place at The Wigwam in Litchfield Park, Ariz. The Women’s Championship will run from April 15-17 while the Men’s Championship will take place from April 23-25.
