FARMINGTON, Utah (Dec. 19, 2023) — Montana defeated North Dakota State 31-29 this past Saturday night in double overtime, as the Grizzlies punched their ticket to the FCS National Championship Game in Frisco, Texas.
The star of the night was once again Junior Bergen, who returned another punt for a touchdown and was the passer on Montana's 2-point conversion in overtime that was ultimately the deciding points.
Montana's defense sealed the win officially after a failed 2-point try from the Bison, as the Griz won 31-29 in double-overtime to send Montana to the title game for the first time since 2009. It's the fourth time under head coach Bobby Hauck that the Griz have reached the championship game, and the eighth time in program history.
Montana will face No. 1 seeded South Dakota State in the championship game on Sunday, Jan. 7 at 12:00 p.m. MT, with the game airing on ABC. The Jackrabbits are the defending national champions and are on a 28-game winning streak.
