FARMINGTON, Utah (September 21, 2022) – A pair of Big Sky Conference women’s golfers each claimed individual medalist honors at their respective tournaments this week, leading to both Sacramento State’s Jennifer Koga and Montana State’s Scarlet Weidig Velazquez being named Co-Women’s Golfer of the Week.
Koga shot a 209 (72, 68, 69) to tie for first at the Coeur d’Alene Collegiate, finishing the tournament at four-under. The 54-hole total is the fourth-best in school history. She finished with 13 birdies, navigating her to her first individual title.
The finish was her 11th top-10 of her career which ties her first second place in program history. The victory was the first for a Hornet since Tess Blair was the medalist at the 2021 Big Sky Championship.
She also navigated the Hornets to a team victory.
In her collegiate debut, Velazquez shot an even-par 216 (74, 71, 71) to win the Kelsey Chugg Invitational hosted by Weber State.
Her final round included five birdies on the back nine, including the last three holes. She finished with 11 birdies in the three-round tournament.
Her three-round score is tied for the third-best 54-hole tournament score at Montana State, plus her win is the 16th in program history.
