#BigSkyMBB Recap: Week Eight

Two full weekends of #BigSkyMBB action are officially in the books

FARMINGTON, Utah (January 3, 2022) – There are officially two weekends of #BigSkyMBB action in the books, with just one undefeated team in league play remaining.
 
Below is a breakdown of all 11 team's weeks, ordered by the current Big Sky Conference men's basketball standings.
 
Northern Colorado (8-7, 3-0 BSC)

Behind 25 points from Dru Kuxhausen, the Northern Colorado Bears knocked off defending Big Sky regular season champions Southern Utah on the road Saturday night. UNC is now the lone undefeated team in Big Sky play, sitting at 3-0. They have wins over Montana, Montana State and Southern Utah.  
 
Montana (10-5, 3-1 BSC)

Sweeping a home series against Idaho State and Weber State, the Montana Grizzlies moved to 9-0 at home and 10-5 on the season this weekend. Josh Bannan had a double-double in both contests, putting up 19 points and 10 rebounds against ISU before handing 13 points and 10 rebounds against Weber State.

Splitting the Montana road swing, the Weber State Wildcats knocked off Montana State 85-75 before falling to the Griz. Koby McEwen was massive for WSU against the Bobcats, finishing with 31 points and hitting 5-of-7 from behind the three-point line.
 
Southern Utah (9-5, 3-1 BSC)

The Thunderbirds split their home series this weekend, knocking off Sacramento State before falling to Northern Colorado. Against the Hornets they were led by 19 points from Preseason MVP Tevian Jones, who finished 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.  

Eastern Washington (8-6, 2-1 BSC)

Sweeping a road swing through Portland and Flagstaff, the Eagles of Eastern Washington moved to 2-1 in Big Sky play. Against the Vikings Steele Venters paced EWU, scoring 20 points. When they traveled to Arizona, it was Linton Acliese who steered the ship with 30 points and 11 rebounds.

Montana State (10-5, 2-2 BSC)

Splitting their home series, the MSU Bobcats moved to 10-5 on the year with a win over Idaho State. Amin Adamu led the home squad in scoring with 13 points. Jubrile Belo also poured in 12.
 
Northern Arizona (4-9, 1-2 BSC)

Hosting a singular matchup this week, the Lumberjacks of NAU fell to Eastern Washington at home 78-65. Keith Haymon led the 'Jacks in scoring with 19 points.
 
Portland State (3-8, 1-2 BSC)

Playing just one contest this week, the Vikings of Portland State suffered a 63-58 loss to the Eastern Washington Eagles at home. Khalid Thomas led the Viks in scoring with 20 points, along with securing a double-double with 12 rebounds.  
 
Idaho (3-8, 0-1 BSC)

The Vandals did not play their scheduled games last week due to a COVID-19 issue within the program.

Sacramento State (4-6, 0-3 BSC)

In their lone game of the week, the Hornets fell to Southern Utah on the road. Bryce Fowler was SAC's leading scorer with 12 points.
 
The Hornets were anticipated to play Oregon State on Monday, but the contest was cancelled right before tip due to a COVID related issue within the Beaver program.

Suffering a sweep on their road swing, the Bengals of Idaho State will go into the third weekend of league competition seeking their first Big sky win.
