Weber State Advances to NIVC Quarterfinals; Portland State’s Season Comes to an End

OGDEN, Utah (December 4, 2021) – Weber State and Portland State met in the second round of the NIVC, and Weber State came out on top with a 3-1 victory in the match.

With the victory, Weber State advances to the quarterfinals of the NIVC.

Portland State and Weber State split their regular-season matchups going 1-1, each team winning on their home court.

In the first set of the match, the Vikings held the Wildcats to just 16 points as they cruised to a 25-16 set one victory.  Portland State had a .400 hitting percentage in the opening frame and totaled 15 kills on 30 swings.

The following three sets all fell in favor of Weber State, who took the second set 25-13.  Weber State’s defense held the Vikings to just eight kills in the entire match.  Offensively the Wildcats put down 11 kills on 22 swings and ended the set with their best hitting percentage of the night, .364.

The final two sets finished a lot closer than the match began.  Weber State took the third set 25-20 and then finished the match with a 25-23 fourth set victory. 

Dani Nay led the Wildcats with a 20 kill performance and added four aces to her stat line.  Nay had 12 digs in the match for a double-double performance. 

The Vikings were led by Makayla Lewis, who had 16 kills on the night.

Weber State advances to the quarterfinals of the NIVC for the second time in as many appearances.  In 2019, Weber State went on to play Tulsa.  This time they are headed to El Paso, Texas, where they will face UTEP on Tuesday, December 7 at 7:30 p.m. MT.
