FARMINGTON, Utah (December 27, 2021) – With just a handful of games played last week, Big Sky Conference men’s basketball teams are gearing up for the start of full-time league action starting this Thursday.
Below is a recap of the past week, broken down by team and ordered according to the latest #BigSkyMBB conference standings.
Weber State (9-4, 2-0 BSC)
Fresno State Recap
In their final non-conference matchup, the Wildcats of Weber State fell to Fresno State 69-43 at home. Despite the loss WSU is tied for the best winning percentage in the Big Sky currently at .692 percent through 13 contests. They share that mark with Montana State.
Southern Utah (8-4, 2-0 BSC)
Dixie State Recap
Getting revenge on an in-state rival in their second matchup of the season, Southern Utah wrapped up their non-conference slate with an 87-59 victory over Dixie State. The Thunderbirds were paced by 18 points from Big Sky Preseason MVP Tevian Jones, who finished with 18 points and nine rebounds. Maizen Fausett secured a double-double by finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds. SUU is 8-4 on the year heading into full-time league play.
Northern Colorado (7-7, 2-0 BSC)
Northern New Mexico Recap
Securing a victory in their final non-conference matchup against Northern New Mexico, the Bears of Northern Colorado own a .500 record going into full-time Big Sky play. The Bears had four guys in double-digits, led by 15 points form Matt Johnson.
Montana State (9-4, 1-1 BSC)
SAGU AIC Recap
Scoring a program-record 124 points, the Bobcats of Montana State closed out non-conference play with a large victory over SAGU American Indian College. MSU got a double-double from Xavier Bishop, dishing out 11 assists and scoring 10 points. That marked his first-career double-double during his Bozeman tenure.
Montana (8-5, 1-1 BSC)
The Grizzlies did not have a contest in the past seven days and will enter league play with the best home record in the big Sky at 7-0.
Northern Arizona (4-8, 1-1 BSC)
The Lumberjacks did not have a contest this week after falling to a top-five Gonzaga team seven days ago. NAU is 4-8 going into Big Sky play.
Portland State (3-7, 1-1 BSC)
Utah State Recap
Wrapping up their non-conference slate on the road against Utah State, PSU suffered an 81-62 loss in Logan to head into Big Sky play at 3-7 on the year.
Eastern Washington (6-6, 0-1 BSC)
Texas Tech Recap
Falling to a top-25 Big 12 team in their final non-conference matchup, Eastern Washington will enter Big Sky competition at .500 as they look to make a return trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Idaho (3-8, 0-1 BSC)
The Vandals did not have a contest in the past seven days after a matchup at UC Riverside was canceled due to a COVID related issue in the Highlander program. The Vandals will open Big Sky play on Saturday against Portland State.
Sacramento State (4-5, 0-2 BSC)
The Hornets did not have a contest in the past seven days and will wrap up their non-conference schedule against Oregon State on Tuesday before heading to Cedar City for a matchup with the Thunderbirds.
Idaho State (2-9, 0-2 BSC)
UC Santa Barbara Recap
Dropping their final non-conference contest, the Bengals of Idaho State fell to UC Santa Barbara on the road 56-43. ISU is 2-9 on the year going into Big Sky play.
