#BigSkyMBB Recap: Week Three

Claiming a tournament title in Fort Meyers, Florida, the Thunderbirds claimed a pair of victories this past week

FARMINGTON, Utah (November 29, 2021) -- A trio of tournament titles and a win over a Pac-12 opponent highlighted the Big Sky Conference men's basketball headlines this week, as multiple teams picked up a strong amount of momentum heading into the start of conference play. 

Eastern Washington (3-3, 0-0 BSC) 

Picking up the league's first victory over a Power 5 opponent, the Eagles of Eastern Washington knocked off Washington State 76-71. EWU's Mason Landdeck led the scoring effort, dropping in 24 points and finishing the game 12-of-14 from the free throw line. Through six games the Eagles are .500 on the season.

Idaho (1-6, 0-0 BSC) 

The Idaho Vandals suffered a pair of losses in the past seven days, dropping one to Cal Poly and another to North Dakota State. The Vandals are 1-6 through seven games three weeks in.

Idaho State (1-5, 0-0 BSC) 

In their lone contest this past week, the Idaho State Bengals dropped a road matchup to the Air Force Academy Falcons 59-48 in Colorado Springs.

Montana (4-3, 0-0 BSC)

Hosting the Zootown Classic, the Montana Grizzlies went 2-0 at home before heading on the road to face Oregon. UM knocked off UC San Diego and Southern Miss, and was scheduled to play UNC Wilmington but the visitors forfeited. Robby Beasley finished with 19 points in the first contest, while Lonnell Martin paced the Griz in the second with 20 points.  

Against the Ducks the Griz fell 87-47.

Montana State (4-3, 0-0 BSC)

Claiming the title at the Cardinal Thanksgiving Invitational in San Antonio, Texas, the Bobcats of Montana State went 3-0 on the week. They knocked off Portland, Incarnate Word and Southeast Missouri to enter Big Sky play with a 4-3 record. MSU had a different leading scorer in all three contests, with Abdul Mohamed setting the high mark against Portland with 25 points.

Northern Arizona (3-4, 0-0 BSC)

The Lumberjacks played just one contest this week, and fell to Cal State Fullerton in Flagstaff 73-56.

Northern Colorado (3-5, 0-0 BSC)

The Bears of Northern Colorado played a pair of Mountain West Conference foes this week, but ultimately fell to both San Jose State and Colorado State on the road.

Portland State (2-3, 0-0 BSC)

The Vikings dropped a pair of contests this past week, falling to Portland at home and Iowa on the road.

Sacramento State (3-3, 0-0 BSC) 

The Hornets of Sacramento State went 1-1 on the week, knocking off UC Davis at the Golden1Center and falling to Arizona. Against the Aggies, Bryce Fowler was the squad's leading scorer with 21 points. He also secured a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Southern Utah (3-3, 0-0 BSC) 

Claiming a tournament title in Fort Meyers, Florida, the Thunderbirds claimed a pair of victories this past week. In a contest that went to OT, Tevian Jones dropped 24 points to pace SUU past Yale. Against Bowling Green John Knight III had 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting.

Weber State (6-0, 0-0 BSC)

The Wildcats of Weber State stayed undefeated this past week, knocking off Dixie State 87-70. WSU was led in scoring by Seikou Sisoho-Jawara, who dropped in 23 points on 10 made field goals.
