Portland State's Michael Seemann earns 2021 #BigSkyVB Coach of the Year

FARMINGTON, Utah (November 16, 2021) – Portland State's Michael Seeman has been named the 2021 #BigSkyVB Coach of the Year by the league's coaches.

The 15th year head coach led the Vikings to a 17-9 overall record and earned the third seed for the Big Sky Volleyball Championship tournament with their 12-4 record in Big Sky play.

The 12-4 record in Big Sky play represents the Vikings' best conference record since 2013.

This season Seemann coached three Vikings to All-Big Sky first-team honors with junior libero Ellie Snook, junior outside hitter Makayla Lewis, and redshirt senior outside hitter Parker Webb. Portland State also had one second-team honors senior setter, Ally Wanda.

2021 marks the second time in Seemann's career when he has been named the Big Sky's coach of the year.  The last time was in 2010 when he guided the Vikings to a conference tournament win and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

In his first 14 seasons, Seemann posted at least 20 wins eight times, compiling an impressive 220-185 record and 145-91 mark in Big Sky matches. He has led the Vikings to Big Sky Conference regular-season titles in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2013 and a pair of conference tournament titles in 2008 and 2010.

The third-seeded Vikings' will face No. 6 Sacramento State in the Big Sky Championship quarterfinals on Thursday, November 18 at 9:0 a.m. MT at Weber State in Ogden, UT.
