#BigSkyMBB Recap: Week One

Big Sky men's basketball teams open up the 2021-22 calendar with a number of contests all across the United States

FARMINGTON, Utah (November 15, 2021) -- The 2021-22 Big Sky Conference men's basketball calendar is officially underway, with a strong number of contests spread across the United States. 

Eastern Washington

The defending Big Sky Conference Tournament champions started the season 1-2, knocking off Walla Walla in their third contest of the season. The win marked the first of David Riley's career.

Idaho

The Vandals started the season 1-2, with a win over George Fox and two close losses to Long Beach State at home and Freshno State on the road.

Idaho State

Going 1-2 to start the season, ISU picked up a victory over Eastern Oregon at home before falling to Pepperdine and Seattle on the road. Tarik Cool was the leading scorer in the Bengal's victory, dropping in 16 points.

Montana

After picking up a victory in the first game of the season, the Montana Grizzlies started the season 1-2 by falling to Mississippi State and North Dakota.

Montana State

After taking a Pac-12 team to overtime, the Montana State Bobcats earned their first victory of the season against Rocky Mountain College to start the seasson 1-1. MSU fell on opening night to Colorado 94-90 before bouncing back for a 81-52 win. Jubrile Belo led the scoring effort for the Bobcats with 21 against Rocky Mountain.

Northern Arizona

The Lumberjacks of NAU started the year 1-2 after falling to two Pac-12 opponents in thier first pair of games. They earned thier first win of the season againt Benedictine Mesa.

Northern Colorado

Leading the Big Sky in terms of victories so far, the Bears of Northern Colorado started the season 3-1 with victories over Pacific, Hawaii and Colorado College.

Portland State

The Vikings opened their season by splitting a pair of contests, falling to Oregon State in their season opener before blowing out Evergreen State College 100-44 in thier second game of the year. That result gave PSU head coach Jase Coburn his first-career victory.

Sacramento State

The Hornets of Sacramento State had a good start to their year, going 2-1 with wins agaisnt William Jessup and Cal Poly. Their lone loss came to the Pac-12's Utah on the road.

Southern Utah

The Big Sky preseason favorites got off to a 1-2 start, as they knocked off Bethesda at home before going on the road and falling to Dixie State and St. Mary's.

Weber State

The Wildcats of Weber State started the season 2-0 after knocking off Western Oregon and Duquense. Their first road victory of the year came agaisnt Duquense.
