About the Big Sky SAAC
The Big Sky Conference has been a leader in formation and enhancement of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) program. Each institution in the Big Sky has its own SAAC made up of committed student-athletes who want to make the experience of being a student-athlete better. Along with individual school committees, the Big Sky has its own conference-wide SAAC. The Big Sky SAAC is composed of two representatives from each institution. Committee members must be of at least sophomore class status and must be eligible for competition.
The Big Sky SAAC serves five functions:
1. Address conference issues affecting student-athlete welfare
2. Provide feedback and distribute information from the national representative
3. Increase and improve student-athletes’ understanding of the legislative process
4. Promote student-athlete participation in the legislative process
5. Provide a forum for addressing student-athlete concerns
Each spring, select SAAC representatives are invited to attend the Big Sky Conference spring meetings in, where they take part in a community service project, and meet with administrators to discuss national and Big Sky legislation.
The SAAC program encourages student-athletes to become involved in the community. The student-athletes participate in a number of different activities designed to help solidify their image in the community and to reach out to the people who support them at their competitions. Some of the events at Big Sky schools are:
- Read Across America
- Drug and Violence Education
- Academic Luncheons
- Blood Drives
- National Student-Athlete Day
- Red Ribbon Week
- Habitat for Humanity
