The Big Sky Conference has long believed that its strength lies in its member institution's belief that they are,
and should be, connected in more ways than just through a composition of schedules. Because of this, the league is continually seeking out new ways to strengthen the bond between the schools, both athletically and academically.
In 2013, under the direction of the Presidents and the guidance of the Faculty Athletic Representatives, the Big Sky published the inaugural edition of
Skyline - The Big Sky Undergraduate Journal. In the last two years, a total of 28 articles have been submitted, including 17 research articles.
The Journal is specifically for undergraduate work and is dedicated to providing a forum for undergraduate students to develop and share research and writing in any discipline. Its goals are to provide a connection between athletics and academics, and showcase the academic prowess of undergraduates in the Big Sky Conference. It also provides a forum for students to publicly share their research and creates an opportunity for students to expose their work to potential graduate programs.
Submission requirements include:
1 - The work must be completed while the author is enrolled as an undergraduate student at a Big Sky Conference member institution: Eastern Washington University, University of Idaho, Idaho State University, The University of Montana, Montana State University, University of North Dakota, Northern Arizona University, University of Northern Colorado, Portland State University, Sacramento State University, Southern Utah University, Weber State University, University of California – Davis and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
2 - All submissions
must have an athletics nexus.
3 - Faculty-mentored research papers and theses from all disciplines will be considered.
4 - Submitters to the journal must own the copyright to the work being submitted.
5 - The top two papers selected from each institution will receive a $500 award.
6 - All submissions to the Journal must be reviewed and approved by the on-campus editorial representative.
For information on each institution's process and deadline, you should contact the Campus Editorial Representative. All finalized submissions to the Journal are due June 1 with publication on August 1 of each year.
Skyline is an open access journal which means that all content is freely available without charge to the user or his/her institution. Users are allowed to read, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles in this journal without asking prior permission from the publisher or the author. The Journal is faculty-reviewed and available to any undergraduate student attending a Big Sky Conference institution.
The Journal's Editor-in-Chief is Jaynee Nadolski, Associate Commissioner, Big Sky Conference, while the Editorial Board is made up of Faculty Athletic Representatives at each institution.
