FARMINGTON, Utah (Aug. 22, 2024) – The Big Sky Conference office has revealed the results of its 2024 Preseason Volleyball Coaches’ Poll, with Weber State being selected as the favorites heading into the upcoming season.
The league's 10 first-place votes were spread out among Weber State (3), Montana State (2), Sacramento State (4) and Northern Colorado (1). Head coaches could not vote for their own teams.
Weber State is coming off an NCAA Tournament berth as the Wildcats looks to defend their Big Sky tournament title from a season ago. The Wildcats were a 4-seed in Greeley and took down 5th-seeded Portland State, top-seeded Sacramento State and third-seeded Montana State en route to the tournament crown.
Montana State was picked second in Thursday's preseason poll after posting a runner-up finish in last season's tournament, which was the first apperance for the Bobcats in the championship match since 1983.
Sacramento State was projected to finish third by the league's head coaches and received a conference-high four first-place votes. The Hornets look to defend their regular-season crown from a season ago where they finished with a 13-3 record.
The 2024 season officially begins on Friday, Aug. 30, for teams around the league. Idaho State, Montana State, Northern Colorado, Portland State and Weber State will all be playing at home to start the 2024 campaign.
The 2024 Big Sky Conference Volleyball Championship will be held on the campus of Sacramento State in Sacramento, California on Nov. 27-29. The top-eight teams in the conference standings after the conclusion of the regular season will comprise the championship field.
