MISSOULA, Montana (Nov. 10, 2024) – After three consecutive penalty kick shootout victories, the Sacramento State Hornets capture their first Big Sky Soccer Championship title since 2010.

Tournament MVP Sierra Sonko led the way for the Hornets, as the redshirt freshman made two saves during the shootout, to total six through three penalty kick shootouts on the week.

The madness in Missoula carried through Championship Sunday, as the Sacramento State Hornets' defense stood strong, holding the top offense in the conferece scoreless through 110 minutes of play.
Sacramento State's Izzy Palmatier's seven saves were enough to send the Hornets to penalty kicks for the third time in as many games. The Hornets are the first team in Big Sky Soccer history to win the title through pentaly kicks in every single match.
With Sunday's win, the Hornets officially earn the Big Sky's automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament, their first since 2010. The Hornets will now await their postseason opponent and seeding, as the 2024 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament selection show is slated for Monday, Nov. 11 at 2:00 p.m. MT on NCAA.com.
