Sacramento State Wins 2023 Big Sky Women's Basketball Tournament Championship

The Hornets will head to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history

BOISE, Idaho (March 9, 2023) - For the first time in program history, Sacramento State will be dancing to the 2023 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament after the Hornets took down top-seeded Northern Arizona 76-63 in the 2023 Big Sky Women's Basketball Championship finale. 

Regular-season MVP Kahlaijah Dean scored 16 points for the Hornets as the Bakersfield, California native was named the Big Sky Tournament MVP. 

Sacramento State redeemed a pair of regular-season losses to NAU, as the Hornets led 37-22 at half before taking the 76-63 championship victory. 

Five different teams have now won the women's basketball tournament title in the past five years, with Sacramento State, Montana State, Idaho State, Portland State and Northern Colorado all winning since 2018. 

The Hornets will now await to see where they play in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, as the selection show is slated for Sunday, March 12 at 6:00 p.m. MT on ESPN.
