FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (Nov. 3, 2023) – The championship match is set at the 2023 Big Sky Conference Soccer Championship, as the Idaho Vandals and Northern Arizona Lumberjacks will meet on Sunday for the right to participate in the NCAA Tournament.
This sets up a rematch from the 2022 championship match played in Greeley, Colo.
No. 2 Idaho 1, No. 3 Portland State 0
The No. 2-seeded Vandals advanced past Portland State in a 1-0 victory in the first of two matches on Friday.
Idaho’s Hannah Alfaro scored on a penalty kick in the 54
th minute to create the separation between the Vandals and the Lumberjacks.
The Vandal defense was stellar, holding the Vikings to just two shots on goal, which Big Sky Keeper of the Year Kira Vita kept from making an impact.
No. 4 Northern Arizona 1, No. 1 Montana 0
Protecting their home grass, the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona knocked of the Big Sky regular season champions in the second match 1-0.
NAU’s goal came in the 22
nd minute when Allison Veloz was able to put one in the back of the net.
Despite putting up 25 shots, 12 of which were on goal, the Griz were unable to see one go across the line.
In goal for the ‘Jacks, Trinity Corcoran was very impressive, making 11 saves.
