FARMINGTON, Utah (Sept. 11, 2022) - Week 2 in the Big Sky featured road upsets and impressive victories, as the league earned another win over an FBS foe thanks to Weber State's 35-7 domination of Utah State. Below is a recap of each game from this past week.
Montana 24, South Dakota 7

MISSOULA (Sept. 10, 2022) – Montana held South Dakota scoreless for three quarters on its way to a 24-7 victory, as the Griz improved to 2-0 on the year. Quarterback Lucas Johnson led the Montana offense with 180 yards passing and a score, while rushing for 75 yards and a pair of touchdowns to round out his afternoon. Montana improves to 14-6 all-time against South Dakota, having now won seven-straight over the Coyotes dating back to 1975.
Montana State 63, Morehead State 13

BOZEMAN (Sept. 10, 2022) – Despite injuries to its running back stable, Montana State found a way to rush for 290 yards and secure a 63-13 rout of Morehead State this past Saturday. The Bobcats used eight different rushers to get to that 290 total, as backup quarterback Sean Chambers racked up 127 yards of his own and two scores to lead the way. Starting quarterback Tommy Mellott took care of the passing game, as the sophomore threw for 265 yards and a pair of touchdowns through the air.
Washington 52, Portland State 6

SEATTLE (Sept. 10, 2022) – The Big Sky couldn't knock off Washington for a second straight season, as Portland State fell to the Huskies on the road, 52-6. Senior wide receiver Beau Kelly recorded two receptions in the loss, giving him 126 for his career and moving him to 10th all-time for the stat at Portland State.
Wyoming 33, Northern Colorado 10

LARAMIE, Wyoming (Sept. 10, 2022) – Northern Colorado hung tough on the road at FBS foe Wyoming, trailing by just a score for most of the game, but ultimately fell 33-10 to the Cowboys after a 17-point fourth quarter from the home team. Quarterback Jacob Sirmon had the lone touchdown for UNC on the day, which came on the ground and narrowed the deficit to just 16-10 at the start of the fourth quarter.
Cal Poly 28, San Diego 27

SAN LUIS OBISPO (Sept. 10, 2022) – True freshmen Jay'Vion Cole and Brian Dukes combined for three interceptions, all in the final six minutes, and Jaden Jones threw four touchdown passes to spark Cal Poly to a come-from-behind 28-27 victory over San Diego. With the win, Cal Poly is now 8-1 all-time against San Diego.
Northern Arizona 10, Sam Houston 3

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (Sept. 10, 2022) – Northern Arizona defeated future FBS foe Sam Houston on the road 10-3 as the Lumberjacks earned their first win of the season in impressive fashion. Sophomore quarterback RJ Martinez finished with 214 yards passing and the game's lone touchdown, which was a one-yard rush that he plowed ahead for late in the second quarter. The three points allowed by the Lumberjacks on Saturday were also the fewest points surrendered on the road by NAU since 2006.
Weber State 35, Utah State 7

LOGAN, Utah (Sept. 10, 2022) – Weber State earned its first FBS win since 1993 and its first victory over Utah State since 1978, as the Wildcats dominated the Aggies 35-7 on the road in convincing fashion. Weber State's defense forced four interceptions and held Utah State without an offensive touchdown, while earning 401 yards of total offense compared to 283 for the Aggies. Additionally, the Wildcats were 10 of 19 on third down while holding Utah State to 2 of 15 for the day.
South Dakota State 24, UC Davis 22

BROOKINGS, South Dakota (Sept. 10, 2022) – In a rematch of the first round of the 2021 FCS Playoffs, UC Davis fell in a tight battle, 24-22, to No. 2 South Dakota State on the road Saturday night. After recovering an onside kick, UC Davis fell just short on a potential game-tying two-point play that ended the late rally. Rex Connors had a fantastic game for UC Davis, recording a career-high 17 tackles and two interceptions in the loss.
Indiana 35, Idaho 22

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana (Sept. 10, 2022) – The Idaho Vandals dominated the first half, outgaining Indiana 170-110 and outscoring the Hoosiers 10-0 at the break, but Indiana battled back in the second half with 22 points in the third quarter points to topple Idaho 35-22. Gevani McCoy looked impressive once again at quarterback for Idaho, passing for 204 yards and three touchdowns while throwing zero interceptions.
San Diego State 38, Idaho State 7

SAN DIEGO (Sept. 10, 2022) – Idaho State dropped a 38-7 contest on the road to Mountain West favorite San Diego State on Saturday night. The Bengals led 7-0 after scoring the game's first touchdown following Tyler Vander Waal's 75-yard strike to Xavier Guillory in the first quarter, but the Aztecs scored 38 unanswered to take back control of the game.
Oregon 70, Eastern Washington 14

EUGENE, Oregon (Sept. 10, 2022) – Eastern Washington fell to 1-1 on the year after a 70-14 loss to nationally ranked Oregon on the road Saturday. Reigning Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week Gunner Talkington scored both of the Eagles' touchdowns in the second and third quarters.
