Buck Buchanan Award Preseason Watch List Features Five from #BigSkyFB

Montana's Patrick O'Connell finished third in voting last year for the Buck Buchanan Award

FARMINGTON, Utah (Aug. 4, 2022) - Stats Perform announced its 2022 Buck Buchanan Award Preseason Watch List on Thursday, with five standouts from the Big Sky Conference making the cut.

Montana's trio of Justin Ford, Robby Hauck and the Big Sky's Preseason Defensive MVP Patrick O'Connell headlined the list, with Northern Colorado's David Hoage and Portland State's Anthony Adams adding to the decorated group of defenders.

Of the five honorees, Ford, O'Connell and Adams have all been finalists for the Buck Buchanan Award over the course of their careers. Florida A&M's Isaiah Land won the honor last season, with the Big Sky's Troy Andersen of Montana State and O'Connell finishing second and third in the voting.

First awarded in 1995, the Big Sky has had eight players win the Buchanan Award. The last player to earn the honor was Montana’s Dante Olson in 2019.

More players can join the watch list during the regular season, and afterwards a national media panel will select the winner. For the full release from Stats Perform, click here.

Also this season, Stats Perform will present the Walter Payton Award (FCS offensive player of the year), Jerry Rice Award (FCS freshman player of the year), Eddie Robinson Award (FCS coach of the year) and Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
