FARMINGTON, Utah (Aug. 23, 2022) – The Big Sky soccer season is in full swing, and the league office has announced its Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors have both gone to Northern Colorado in a sweep.
UNC's Haley O'Nan and Kaya Lindberg have earned the first weekly honors of the season respectively for the Bears after a very productive weekend, going 1-0-1 against high-level opponents.
Offensive Player of the Week - Haley O'Nan
O'Nan scored the game-winning goal against Wyoming for UNC to win the Front Range Derby only 49 seconds into their opening match. She also assisted on the equalizing goal that earned the Bears a tie against Big-12 foe Kansas State.
Defensive Player of the Week - Kaya Lindberg
Shutting out Wyoming and holding Kansas State to a single goal earned Linberg the league's defensive weekly honors. She had 16 total saves across both matches, including 11 against Kansas State, with a save percentage of .941. She faced 46 shots on the weekend. Across 180 minutes of action, she only allowed a single goal.
The Bears are the only unbeaten team in the conference after the opening slate.
