Taylor, Vigen Named Eddie Robinson Award Finalists

Both coaches were named finalists for the same award in 2021, while Taylor won the honor in 2019.

CHICAGO (Nov. 21, 2022) - The Big Sky had two finalists for the 2022 Stats Perform FCS Eddie Robinson Award, which is presented to the national coach of the year in the FCS. Sacramento State's Troy Taylor and Montana State's Brent Vigen were named two of 16 finalists for the award on Monday.

Taylor's Hornets are 11-0 overall on the year and finished conference play a perfect 8-0 to win the program's third Big Sky football title. Taylor, who won the same award in 2019, has earned a 29-7 record overall in his three seasons at Sacramento State after taking over a program that finished 2-8 overall and 0-7 in conference play in 2018 prior to his arrival.

Vigen's Bobcats are 10-1 overall and finished conference play with a perfect 8-0 record as well to share co-champion honors with Sacramento State. The Big Sky title is the first for Montana State since 2012. The Bobcats are 22-4 under Vigen in his first two seasons with the program.

Taylor and Vigen were both named finalists for the Eddie Robinson Award in 2021.

Named for legendary Grambling State coach Eddie Robinson, the award is in its 36th season, having been first presented in 1987. A national media panel will select the winner, who will be announced on Dec. 8 and honored at the FCS National Awards banquet on Jan. 7 in Frisco, Texas – on the eve of the national championship game.
