Weber State Wins Regular-Season #BigSkySB Crown; Earns Top Seed

FARMINGTON, Utah (May 8, 2020) – With only one week remaining in the regular season, the Weber State softball team made it official that they were the 2021 regular-season champions. Still, it took until the final weekend to determine tournament seeding.
The 2021 preseason favorites won their fifth straight Big Sky regular-season title in the last six years. Last season no champion was crowned due to the cancellation of the season.
Weber State finished the season with a 15-3 record in Big Sky play and a 24-17 record overall. The Wildcats will receive a first-round bye in the conference tournament.
Receiving the No. 2 seed and the other first-round bye will be Southern Utah after they finished the season with a 10-8 record in conference play and an overall record of 18-28.
Tiebreakers were needed to figure out seeds three through six as four teams ended conference play with an 8-10 record.
The tournament's first game will feature a matchup between No. 4 seeded Northern Colorado and No. 5 seeded Portland State. The winner of this matchup will take on top-seeded Weber State.
No. 3 Sacramento State will take on No. 6 Montana in the second game of the tournament, with the winner facing Southern Utah.
The Big Sky Softball Tournament will be held on the campus of Weber State and will take place May 13-15. The double-elimination tournament features the conference's top six teams. The 2021 championship game will begin at 12:00 p.m. MT on Saturday. May 15. All games of the Big Sky tournament can be seen on PlutoTV.
The winner of the Big Sky Tournament will advance to the NCAA Women's College World Series.
