FARMINGTON, Utah (May 26, 2021) – With every 2020-21 Big Sky Conference Championship event in the books, the league office has announced the winners of the Men’s and Women’s All-Sport Trophies, which have both been claimed by the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks.

On the women’s side the Lumberjacks claimed three Big Sky titles in cross country, outdoor track and field and tennis to propel them to winning the 2020-21 All-Sport Trophy. They also secured a runner-up finish in both golf and soccer. Unfortunately, their soccer season was cut short as they were unable to participate in the Big Sky Championship match due to COVID-19 protocols.

Weber State finished second in the All-Sport standings on the women’s side, with Idaho, Montana State and Southern Utah rounding out the top-five.

The Lumberjacks claimed a pair of Big Sky titles on the men’s side in both men’s tennis and outdoor track and field. Their cross country team secured a runner-up finish in the Big Sky Championship en route to winning the NCAA National Championship a few weeks later. They also finished with a 3-2 record in football, which put them in a tie with UC Davis for third in the league standings.

Southern Utah was the runner-up on the men’s side, followed by Weber State, Montana State and Eastern Washington to close out the top-five.

The All-Sports Awards are presented to the institutions accumulating the most points during the year in men’s sports and women’s sports. There are two All-Sports Awards: one for men’s sports and one for women’s sports. Points are awarded only in conference-sponsored sports. In basketball, soccer, football, tennis, softball, and volleyball, the all-sports points are awarded on the basis of the regular-season standings. In all other sports, all-sports points are awarded on the basis of Conference tournament/championship results.

Member institutions or teams not eligible to compete for the Conference championship in a particular sport are not awarded any all-sports points in that sport. Affiliate members are not awarded points, but members do not move into those vacant slots.

Institutional scores are calculated by dividing total points by the number of conference-sponsored sports the institution sponsors. In the event of a tie between teams in games won and lost in the final conference standings, the points will be shared among the tied teams.

Adjustments were made for the 2020-21 standings to reflect sports that were played in divisions and football teams that did not compete. Also, on a standard year the indoor and outdoor track and field all-sports points are averaged to create one point for track and field, which did not happen this season due to the cancelation of the Big Sky Indoor Championships.

The results of the All-Sport Trophy are factored into the final total for the Big Sky Presidents' Cup, which will be announced later this summer.
