Jay Hill Named Big Sky Coach of the Year Following Spring 2021 Regular Season
FARMINGTON, Utah (April 22, 2021) – For the first time since taking over as head coach of the Weber State Wildcats ahead of the 2014 season, WSU head coach Jay Hill has been named Big Sky Conference Coach of the Year following an undefeated spring campaign.
The Wildcats went 5-0 this year, and are set to make their fifth consecutive FCS Playoff appearance this weekend.
They started the season with a dominating 49-21 victory over Idaho State on the road before opening their home season with a win over then-ranked No. 23 UC Davis. The Wildcats went on to knock off Northern Arizona, Southern Utah and Idaho State for a second time as they secured a perfect regular season record.
WSU also claimed its fourth consecutive Big Sky Conference title this season, but for the first time in school history they did not have to share the honor as they won it outright.
Hill currently holds a 52-30 record at Weber State, and has a 39-14 record in Big Sky Conference games. Along with those marks, he holds the second best winning percentage as head coach in Weber State history, and the best percentage in Big Sky Conference games.
Yesterday it was announced that Hill was named Region 5 Coach of the Year. This marks the second straight season he has taken home that honor. Earlier in the week he was also named a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award by Stats Perform, which honors the top coach in the FCS each season.
Hill’s first season at Weber State finished at 2-10, but two years later in 2016 the team improved to finish 7-5 overall and 6-2 in the Big Sky. From that point on, Hill has turned Weber State into an FCS powerhouse.
Weber State will host Southern Illinois on Saturday, April 24 at 2 p.m. MT inside Stewart Stadium.
