FARMINGTON, Utah (Nov. 15, 2021) - Eastern Washington's Eric Barriere was named the ROOT SPORTS Big Sky Football Offensive Player of the Week for the sixth time this season, which breaks the conference record for most wins in a single season. Montana's Robby Hauck and Cal Poly's Jaden Ohlsen were named the Defensive and Special Teams Player of the Week as well after their big performances this past weekend.
Barriere's sixth offensive award breaks his tie with Montana's Dave Dickenson, who won the award five times in 1995. Overall, Barriere has won 12 Big Sky offensive weekly awards for his career. The honors for Hauck and Ohlsen are the first for each student-athlete this season.
Barriere led the Eagles to a Top 10 road win at UC Davis this past Saturday, after passing for 411 yards and three touchdowns while adding 42 yards on the ground. The game marked Barriere's fifth game this season with over 400 yards passing, while his 34 completions tied a career-high for the Eagle QB. Barriere also became the Big Sky's all-time leader in passing yards after his performance, as he now has 12,676 career passing yards which also ranks 10th all-time in FCS history. Additionally, Barriere tied Vernon Adams Jr's Big Sky career passing touchdown record with 110, which currently ranks 13th all-time in the FCS.
Hauck led the Griz to another impressive defensive performance, after making a season-high 14 tackles with seven being solos. Hauck also forced a fumble on a sack that Patrick O'Connell scooped up for the first of two defensive touchdowns for Montana on the day. Hauck and the Griz defense held NAU to just 55 yards rushing, helping Montana's third-ranked rush defense lower its season average to 73.0 rush yards allowed. With Hauck's performance, the junior moved into sixth place on Montana's all-time leading tackler list.
Ohlsen nailed a game-winning field goal from 41 yards out to give Cal Poly its first Big Sky win of the season as the Mustangs defeated Idaho State 32-29. The freshman kicker was a perfect 2-for-2 on field goals, making a 36-yarder with 4:00 minutes remaining and his game-winning, 41-yarder coming with just four seconds remaining to lift the Mustangs. Ohlsen also connected on his only PAT, while logging a pair of kickoffs that averaged 56.0 yards per attempt. Ohlsen's kick gave head coach Beau Baldwin his first conference win at Cal Poly.
