Eastern Washington's Legans Tabbed #BigSkyMBB Coach of the Year
BOISE, Idaho (March 10, 2020) – After leading Eastern Washington to its first Big Sky regular season title in five seasons, Shantay Legans has been named the 2019-20 Big Sky Coach of the Year as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Legans’ Eagles claimed the program’s first outright Big Sky title in 16 years after finishing 16-4 in conference play to capture the No. 1 seed in the Big Sky Championship.
Eastern Washington swept the season series against seven Big Sky opponents, riding a seven-game win streak into the postseason.
Behind three All-Big Sky selections including the league’s MVP Mason Peatling, Eastern Washington collected the program’s most Big Sky wins in school history while posting the second-most overall wins (23) since becoming an NCAA Division I member in 1983-84.
Legans becomes the fifth Eastern Washington coach to earn the Big Sky’s top honor, the most recent being Jim Hayford in 2014-15.
Eastern Washington opens Big Sky Championship play Thursday in the quarterfinal round between the winner of No. 8 Weber State and No. 9 Sacramento State.
