FARMINGTON, Utah (February 12, 2020) – Southern Utah’s Ethan Gray and Northern Colorado’s Coby Welch have both been named the Big Sky Conference Men’s Golf Player of the Week, announced today by the league office.

Gray, a senior for the Thunderbirds, led the way to a second-place finish for the home team at the Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Invitational in St. George, Utah. After shooting a 1-over 73 on Monday, Gray bounced back and shot a 6-under 66 to finish tied for second with a 5-under score of 139. Gray’s second round score of 66 was the lowest amongst the entire field over the course of the tournament.

Welch opened with a 2-under 70 and followed it up with a 3-under 69 to finish with a 5-under score of 139. Welch accumulated nine birdies and an eagle over the 36 holes. The two rounds under par are his sixth of the year and he has shot rounds in the 60s five times.

It is the first weekly honor of Gray’s career and the first weekly honor of the season for Welch and the sixth of his career.
