Raines Repeats; Ramsay, Short, Beamish Receive #BigSkyTF Weekly Honors
FARMINGTON, Utah (February 10, 2020) – The Big Sky Conference announces its #BigSkyTF weekly awards.
For the women, Eastern Washington’s Samantha Raines was named the women’s field athlete of the week and received that honor for the second consecutive week. Montana State’s McKenna Ramsay was named the women’s track athlete of the week.
For the men, weekly honors went to Idaho’s Zack Short as the men’s field athlete of the week and to Northern Arizona’s Geordie Beamish as the men’s track athlete of the week.
Raines was one of four members of the Eagle’s women’s team to take the top four spots in the Idaho Team Challenge as she claimed the event’s top spot. She had a vault of 13-1, a week after she and teammate Savannah Schultz had marks of 13-5 1/4 at the UW Invitational to rank fourth all-time at Eastern Washington
McKenna Ramsay had one of the best runs of her senior season at the MSU Indoor Open. Her converted time of 56.27 seconds in the 400 moved her to fifth on the Big Sky performance list.
Short easily won the shot put at the Idaho Team Challenge with his throw of 63-11.50 (19.49m). That mark is his season-best and is the best mark this season in the Big Sky Conference. Short’s mark is also 14th best in the nation this year.
Beamish competed at the Millrose Games on Saturday and placed sixth in the Wanamaker Mile. Beamish posted the second-fastest split over the final 400m to finish sixth, jumping three spots in the last quarter-mile. His time of 3:56.90 was a new personal best, beating his previous best by almost 10 seconds, and he now ranks fourth in the country in the indoor mile this season as of Saturday.
Short and Beamish also join Raines in receiving weekly award honors multiple times this season.
