MSU Newcomer Bishop Earns #BigSkyMBB Player of the Week Nod
FARMINGTON, Utah (November 30, 2020) – After leading Montana State to a statement road win over UNLV in its season opener on Wednesday, senior guard Xavier Bishop has been named the Big Sky Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Making his MSU debut and his first court appearance since the 2018-19 season, Bishop scored 16 of his team-high 22 points in the second half to hold off the Runnin’ Rebels for a 91-78 victory in Las Vegas.
The Springfield, Illinois, native connected on six of nine shot attempts and went 8-of-8 from the charity stripe. Bishop also added five rebounds, four assists and one steal while committing just one turnover in 26 minutes of action.
The season-opening win was MSU's first true road victory to begin a campaign since the 2002-03 season while the 91 points were the most by a Bobcat team in a season opener since 1997-98.
