Olson Named FCS ADA Defensive Player of the Year
FARMINGTON, Utah (January 9, 2020) – With one day left until the STATS FCS Banquet to determine the organization’s the top offensive and defensive players of the year, Montana’s Dante Olson added another accolade to his resume as he was named the 2019 FCS ADA Defensive Player of the Year. Olson will be recognized on Saturday, January 11, at the Division I FCS Championship at Toyota Stadium.
Olson has picked up All-America accolades from every outlet this season to cap an amazing senior campaign, as he’ll be in Frisco for the second consecutive year as a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award. The linebacker led the FCS in tackles with 151 stops, while averaging 12.6 tackles per game to rank second.
Vying for the Walter Payton Award honor tomorrow night is a pair of Big Sky quarterbacks that had stellar seasons. Northern Arizona senior quarterback Case Cookus makes his first trip to Frisco since 2015, as he waits to see if his FCS-leading 4,114 passing yards was enough to earn the top honor.
Sacramento State junior Kevin Thomson, the 2019 Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year, will make his first trip appearance at the banquet. The Payton finalist completed 25 touchdown passes and rushed for 10 touchdowns this season.
The STATS FCS Banquet Ceremony will take place on Friday, January 10 at the Embassy Suites Frisco.
