Montana Rookie Carter-Hollinger Tabbed #BigSkyMBB Player of the Week

FARMINGTON, Utah (January 14, 2020) – Freshman forward Derrick Carter-Hollinger played an instrumental role in guiding league-leading Montana to a pair of dominant victories to help him earn Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Ready Nutrition Player of the Week honors.

Carter-Hollinger is the third Grizzly in as many weeks to capture the weekly honor, and is the first freshman to be named Big Sky Player of the Week since Portland State’s Holland Woods on Dec. 12, 2017.

Carter-Hollinger opened the week with a 20-point, 14-rebound performance in a 90-63 win at preseason favorite Eastern Washington on Thursday. The El Cajon, Calif., product scored 16 first half points on 7-of-7 shooting to help the Griz lead for the final 33 minutes, including the final 24 minutes by double digits. In addition to his career highs in points and rebounds, he posted a career-best four blocks and dished out a pair of assists in the win.

The rookie followed with a 13-point performance on 6-of-7 shooting in an 85-70 win Monday over Portland State in Missoula. Carter-Hollinger connected on his first six shots while adding four rebounds, two blocks, two assists and a steal. Montana led for the final 31 minutes thanks to Carter-Hollinger scoring seven consecutive points to help the Griz build a 27-17 first half advantage.

On the week, Carter-Hollinger averaged 16.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 assists per game. He shot a sizzling 79 percent (15-of-19) from the field and 75 percent (3-of-4) from beyond the arc.
