FARMINGTON, Utah (September 11, 2019) – Northern Arizona’s Aleksandra Chekalina has been named the Big Sky Conference Women’s Golf Player of the Week, announced today by the league office.
Chekalina, a sophomore for the Lumberjacks, earned a third-place finish on the player leaderboard at just one-over par after shooting 72 in the final round of play at the Hobble Creek Fall Classic. Chekalina's third-place showing was the top individual performance of her young collegiate career. Last season at the Big Sky Conference Championships the Russian native tied for fifth-place, which was her previous best finish. It was the fourth time in her time at NAU that she has made the top-10.
It is the first conference weekly honor of Chekalina’s career.
Next up for Northern Arizona is the Coeur d’Alene Collegiate Invitational from Sept. 23-24 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
Other Nominees: Chanikan (Pluem) Yongyuan, Southern Utah; Valeria Patino, Idaho; Valerie Hernandez, Portland State.
