FARMINGTON, Utah (September 10, 2019) -- Southern Utah sits at the top of the standings after the first two weeks of play in the 2019 season. There is still a lot more volleyball to be played and this weekend will feature Big Sky teams competing in a total of 31 games.
- Southern Utah remains the leader at the top of the standings with a 5-1 record. This past week the Thunderbirds picked up an impressive win over Middle Tennessee in a 3-0 sweep.
- The Big Sky went 0-2 this past week against ranked opponents. Portland State faced off against #19 Utah and Sacramento State was defeated by #20 Hawaii. Both games were decided in a three set sweep by the ranked team.
- All teams are in action this weekend with multiple games scheduled for each team. The only midweek game set for this week is Tuesday evening when Eastern Washington travels to Seattle for a match at 6:00 p.m. PT.
- Northern Arizona swept the player of the week honors with Sydney Lema taking home Offensive Player of the Week honors and Abby Akin laying claim to the Defensive Player of the Week honors.
- Weber State’s Sam Schiess is leading the conference in offensive production this season. The junior is hitting .472 percent and has 40 kills on 72 total attacks.
- Southern Utah’s Shannon Webb is the conference leader in kills and total attacks. Webb has 252 attacks on the season and has recorded 91 kills. She currently is hitting .274 percent this season.
