Freshmen Collect Season's First #BigSkySoccer Weekly Awards
FARMINGTON, Utah (August 27, 2019) – A pair of freshmen captured the first set of Big Sky Conference soccer weekly honors for the 2019 season with Eastern Washington’s Riley Walkington and Idaho’s Avrie Fox each earning their first conference accolade.
Walkington totaled three points in a 1-1 week for Eastern Washington, including an assist on Sariah Keister’s golden goal in a win over Nevada. The Sandpoint, Idaho native provided the helper to Keister’s strike on a corner kick in the 95th minute to propel the Eagles to a 1-0 season-opening road win on Thursday.
Walkington scored her first career goal in a setback to Boise State on Saturday. The midfielder provided the equalizer for the Eagles in the 31st minute.
On the week, she placed five of her six shots on goal.
Fox recorded one shutout and seven saves to help Idaho to a 1-1 week to open the season. The Vista, Calif. native collected five saves in a 1-0 shutout victory on the road against Cal State Bakersfield on Sunday.
The lone goal allowed by Fox came on a penalty kick to Boise State’s Raimee Sherle, who tied for the national lead in goals scored in 2018.
