Beamish, Nehring, Bianchini named Google Cloud Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas (June 27, 2019) – Three #BigSkyTF student-athletes received Google Cloud Academic All-America honors on Thursday, June 27, from the College Sports Information Directors of America for their success on the track and in the classroom.

Montana State had two student-athletes named Academic All-Americans with Alec Nehring being named to the second team and Chris Bianchini being named to the third team.  Both student-athletes have maintained a 4.0 GPA during their time with the Bobcats.  

Nehring earned his second all-conference award by taking third in the shot put at the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships. The Manhattan, Mont., native set a lifetime best in the event at the meet with a throw of 58 feet, 1 inch. Nehring was a Big Sky Winter All-Academic Team selection. He was a junior during the indoor season and is majoring in mathematics. 

Bianchini placed sixth in the 800-meter run at the Big Sky Indoor Championships. He was a member of the Bobcats' gold-medal distance medley relay squad that completed the eighth fastest mark in program history. The Snohomish, Wash., native was selected to the Big Sky Winter All-Academic Team. Bianchini was a top-three finisher in all 800 races he appeared in during the indoor season. He was a sophomore during the indoor schedule and majors in mechanical engineering. 

Northern Arizona’s Geordie Beamish was the only Lumberjack to receive Academic All-America honors and was named to the second team.

Beamish was the 2019 NCAA Division I National Champion in the mile during the indoor season, an event he also won at the 2019 Big Sky Indoor Championships to earn all-conference honors.  Beamish also competed at the outdoor championships this year where he finished 10th in the 5,000 meters.  The New Zealand native received all-conference honors during the outdoor season after winning the 1500 meters at the conference championships. Beamish was also a member of the Lumberjack’s National Championship cross country team this year. Beamish also received Big Sky All-Academic honors this year.

The Google Cloud Academic All-American award honors those student-athletes that excel academically while regularly competing for their institution.  All selections are chosen by CoSIDA membership and receive All-District honors. First team all-district selections are automatically considered for Academic All-American status and are chosen by members of the Academic All-American committee and CoSIDA Board of Directors.
