OGDEN, Utah (May 7, 2019) – After guiding Weber State to a fourth-straight Big Sky regular season title and the best conference winning percentage in league history, Mary Kay Amicone has been named the 2019 Big Sky Softball Coach of the Year as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Amicone led the Wildcats to a 14-2 record in conference play in 2019, setting a new Big Sky standard with a .875 winning percentage.

A two-time Big Sky Coach of the Year honoree (2015), Amicone coached eight Wildcats to All-Big Sky honors this season including player of the year Takesha Saltern and freshman of the year Faith Hoe. Weber State led the conference with four first team selections.

In Big Sky play, the Wildcats claimed series wins over all six Big Sky teams en route to claiming the No. 1 seed in this week’s Big Sky Championship. In non-conference action, Amicone’s Wildcats recorded four wins over three Power Five schools in Stanford, Ohio State and twice against in-state foe Utah.

Amicone becomes the second Big Sky softball coach to earn two coach of the year accolades, joining former Montana coach Jamie Pinkerton who captured back-to-back honors in 2016 and 2017.

Amicone earned her first coach of the year honor in 2015, leading the Wildcats to their first Big Sky Championship as the No. 3 seed.

The top-seeded Wildcats begin play in the Big Sky Championship on Wednesday at 2 p.m. PT against the winner of No. 4 Sacramento State and No. 5 Portland State.
