Sacramento State's Legaspi Earns #BigSkyTennis Men's Player of the Week Honors
OGDEN, Utah (April 17, 2019) – Sacramento State junior Hermont Legaspi totaled a 3-0 record last week to lead the Hornets to home wins over Weber State and Idaho State and earn Big Sky Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career.
Legaspi dropped just seven games playing at No. 2 singles on the week en route to a 6-1, 6-0 win over Weber State’s Michiel Van Schoor and a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Idaho State’s Peter Trhac. Sacramento State’s 6-1 wins helped the Hornets clinch a Big Sky Championship berth.
Against Weber State, Legaspi and Dom Miller took down Kris van Wyk and Paul Ohde, 6-2, at No. 3 doubles to help the Hornets clinch the doubles point. The duo’s match against Idaho State went unfinished.
Legaspi has won eight of his last 10 singles matches while improving to 12-7 overall and 6-3 in league play. Since being moved up to No. 2 full time on March 30, the Sacramento native is 4-1, and now 6-2 overall at the No. 2 slot. In addition, Legaspi is 6-6 in doubles play this season, including a 4-2 mark in league play.
