Kyro, Feilzer, Malone, Short Named #BigSkyTF Athletes of the Week
OGDEN, Utah (April 15, 2019) – The Big Sky Conference announces it’s #BigSkyTF athletes of the week. Montana’s Hana Feilzer was named the women’s field athlete of the week and Montana State’s Lexi Kyro was named the women’s track athlete of the week. On the men’s side, Idaho State’s Treyshon Malone took home the track athlete of the week honors and Idaho’s Zachary Short repeated as the men’s field athlete of the week.
Feilzer competed at UCLA’s Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational where she held her own against athletes from UCLA, Oklahoma and more. The senior took second place in the hammer throw (200-8, season-best) and fourth in the discus (153-10, season-best). In the hammer, all five of her marked throws went at least 183 feet; just one other athlete reached that mark even once. The distance was a season-best by more than 10 feet and was within six feet of her school record. It was also the best distance of the season by a Big Sky athlete.
Kyro put together one of her best individual performances as a Bobcat at the Triton Invitational on Saturday where she finished first in the 3,000 steeplechase at the meet with a time of 10:38.20. The mark placed Kyro third on the Big Sky performance list and moved her to sixth all-time in program history in the event.
Malone won four individual events at the 2019 Aggie Invitational. In his first 100m dash for Idaho State, Malone set a personal best time of 10.44 seconds. The mark ties him for sixth all-time in the ISU record book. In the 200m, Malone ran a personal best time of 21.15 seconds. Malone recorded two more wins to finish the week. In the 110m hurdles, he ran a time of 14.59 seconds and he won the long jump with a distance of 7.36m (24' 1.75").
Short had a season-best throw in the shot put at 18.80 meters (61-8.25) at the Triton Invitational where he finished seventh. Short also participated in the discus throw and recorded a mark of 51.95 meters (170-.5) to finish eighth in that event. Short’s mark in the shot put currently leads the Big Sky in that event.
