NAU's Handel Collects #BigSkyTennis Men's Player of the Week Nod

OGDEN, Utah (March 20, 2019) – Northern Arizona senior Tim Handel went 4-0 last week to lead the Lumberjacks to a pair of road wins and take home Big Sky Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Handel won both of his No. 1 singles matches in straight sets in victories over Northern Colorado and Denver while pairing with Ruben Montano for two wins at No. 1 doubles.

Against Northern Colorado, the Reutlingen, Germany native defeated Kyle Pease 6-2, 6-4 while earning a 6-4 doubles win over Pease and Tommy Smalley for a 6-1 NAU victory.

In a tight 4-3 win over Denver, Handel’s 7-5, 6-4 victory was the lone straight-set win of the match. He also collected a 6-2 doubles win to help the Lumberjacks take the doubles point.

Handel is now 11-1 in singles on the season while carrying an 8-4 record in doubles action. The Big Sky weekly honor is the sixth of his career.
