Newlee Named #BigSkyWBB Coach of the Year
OGDEN, Utah (March 11, 2019) – In his eleventh year at the helm of the Idaho Vandals women’s basketball program, head coach Jon Newlee has been named the 2018-19 Big Sky Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year as voted on by the league coaches.
Newlee has led Idaho to 19-10 record this season and went 16-4 in conference play to earn the overall No.1 seed at the Big Sky Basketball Championships and claim the regular season title outright.
Newlee coached two all-conference performers this season that included Taylor Pierce and Mikayla Ferenz, who was also this year’s league MVP. Newlee also coached Gina Marxen who was named the Freshman of the Year.
As the No. 1 seed, Idaho will play their first game at the championships on Tuesday, March 12 against the winner of the No. 8 Northern Arizona / No. 9 Sacramento State game.
