Sacramento State's Losbergs Collects #BigSkyTennis Men's Player of the Week Honors
OGDEN, Utah (February 6, 2019) – Sacramento State senior Mikus Losbergs paced the Hornets to a 2-0 start in conference play last weekend with a 4-0 overall record to earn Big Sky Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Losbergs recorded a pair of straight-set wins at No. 1 singles and ?teamed up with Louis Chabut to earn two victories at No. 1 doubles over Eastern Washington and reigning Big Sky champion Idaho on the road.
The Marupe, Latvia native opened the weekend with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Eastern Washington’s Mikayel Khachatryan to help the Hornets to a 4-3 win in their Big Sky opener. In doubles play, Losbergs and Chabut collected a 6-3 win over Khachatryan and Jeremy Field in a Sacramento State doubles sweep.
On Saturday, Losbergs took down Idaho’s Carlos Longhi Neto, 6-4, 6-3, to earn the Hornets’ third point of the afternoon in a 5-2 victory over the Vandals. In doubles play, Losbergs and Chabut helped Sacramento State to a 1-0 lead with a 6-4 win in the deciding match at No. 1 over Longhi Neto and Esteban Santibanez.
The Big Sky weekly honor is the fourth of Losbergs’ career after collecting a player of the week nod in each of the previous three seasons.
