WSU's van Wyk Claims #BigSkyTennis Men's Player of the Week Accolades
OGDEN, Utah (February 13, 2019) – A perfect weekend on the courts including a match-clinching victory led Weber State junior Kris van Wyk to Big Sky Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honors.
Van Wyk combined for a 3-0 record in singles and doubles play last weekend at home to lead the Wildcats to their first wins of the season over Colorado Mesa and Gonzaga.
On Sunday, van Wyk grinded out a 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 victory over Gonzaga’s Ruadhan O’Sullivan at No. 1 singles to propel the Wildcats to a 4-3 victory and hand the Bulldogs their first defeat of 2019.
The Durbanville, South Africa product opened the week with a 6-4 doubles win with partner Nick Werner in their first appearance at the top spot. Van Wyk followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Max Lindqvist at No. 1 in the 6-1 Weber State victory.
The Big Sky weekly honor is the first of the season for van Wyk and third of his career.
