Southern Utah’s Cardenas Earns #BigSkyWBB Weekly Honors
FARMINGTON, Utah (December 10, 2019) – Southern Utah’s Rebecca Cardenas has been named the #BigSkyWBB Ready Nutrition Player of the Week. This is the second time this season that Cardenas has received weekly honors.
Cardenas played in two games this week and helped the Thunderbirds to a 2-0 record with wins against Oral Roberts and UC Irvine. On the week, Cardenas averaged 23.50 points, six rebounds, five assists, 4.5 steals, and a blocked shot per game.
Against Oral Roberts, Cardenas scored 17 points on 8-of-18 shooting and had eight assists. She also added five rebounds and five steals for the Thunderbirds against the Golden Eagles.
In her second game against UC Irvine, the senior guard scored a week high 30 points while shooting 50 percent from the field, going 10-of-20. Cardenas’ 30-point performance was the first for the Thunderbirds since the 2016-17 season.
Cardenas currently leads the Big Sky in scoring with an average of 18.7 points per game and has helped lead SUU to its best start since the 2014-15 season.
