SACRAMENTO, Calif. (November 29, 2019) – Two teams punched their ticket to the #BigSkyVB championship match with victories in tonight’s semifinals.

Tomorrow’s championship match will get underway at 7:05 p.m. PT with No. 2 Weber State squaring off against No. 1 Northern Colorado.  The match will be aired on Pluto TV channel 531 and on Eleven Sports.

Semifinal 1 – No. 2 Weber State 3, No. 3 Northern Arizona 0

The Wildcats and the Lumberjacks met for the third time this season after splitting their home and home series.  Weber State came out swinging and defeated the Lumberjacks 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-21) to advance to the Big Sky Championship final for the first time in 31 years.

Junior Rylin Roberts led the Wildcats with a double-double that included 14 kills and 16 digs.  Joining Roberts with double-digit kills on the night was Megan Gneiting who recorded 10 kills on her way to a team-high hitting mark of .320. The Big Sky Freshman of the Year, Dani Nay also had 10 kills for the Wildcats.

Semifinal 2 – No. 1 Northern Colorado 3, No. 4 Montana State 1

The second semifinal of the night that would determine the final place in the championship match did not disappoint those that were in attendance.  Montana State gave Northern Colorado all they could handle as each team battled back and forth until the final point.

Northern Colorado came out on top with a 3-1 (29-27, 25-22, 22-25, 25-22) victory over Montana State.

The Bears were led by the play of Daisy Schultz, the 2019 Big Sky MVP, and Taylor Muff who recorded double-doubles in the match.  Schultz notched 57 assists and 13 digs while Muff recorded 18 kills and 21 digs. 

Montana State’s Evi Wilson had a big night with 20 kills and 17 digs with a team-high hitting percentage of .372.

In tonight’s match, Montana State set a new Big Sky Championship record for total blocks in a match with 20.5.  The previous record was 18.5 and was held by Montana since 1992.
