Southern Utah's Cardenas Named #BigSkyWBB Ready Nutrition Player of the Week

FARMINGTON, Utah (November 12, 2019) – The Big Sky Conference announces that Southern Utah’s Rebecca Cardenas has been named this week’s #BigSkyWBB Ready Nutrition Player of the Week.

Cardenas helped Southern Utah to a 2-0 record to start the season as the Thunderbirds notched wins over Cal. St. Fullerton and Utah Valley. 

In the Thunderbirds season opener against Cal St. Fullerton, Cardenas scored 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting and added five assists, two steals and a blocked shot to her stat line. 

In her second game of the week against Utah Valley, Cardenas netted 23 points while going 8-of-17 from the field.  She also shot 4-of-7 from the three-point line while adding in two steals and two assists.

On the week, Cardenas averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, two steals, and 0.5 blocks per game. She also shot 45 percent from the field and 50 percent from long range on the week.

This is the first week that the Big Sky has awarded player of the week this season.
