Montana's Akoh Collects #BigSkyMBB Ready Nutrition Player of the Week Honor
OGDEN, Utah (January 29, 2019) – Montana senior post Jamar Akoh averaged a double-double in leading the Griz to an undefeated week at home to capture Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Ready Nutrition Player of the Week honors.
The veteran from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., recorded a pair of double-double performances for Montana last week to push the Griz to 7-2 in Big Sky action. Akoh averaged 23.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.0 steals and 1.5 assists per game while shooting at a 54.3 (19-of-35) percentage from the field.
He opened the week with a 22-point, 17-rebound performance in an 80-69 victory over Idaho State, reaching a double-double with two minutes remaining in the first half. Among his 17 boards were eight offensive rebounds. Akoh also added four steals to his stat line.
Akoh tallied a season-high 25 points along with 10 rebounds, two steals and two assists in a 75-68 win over first-place Weber State on Saturday to bring Montana into a tie with the Wildcats in the conference standings.
Akoh scored 12 consecutive points for Montana in the second half, turning the Griz’s five-point lead into a 63-51 advantage with nine minutes to play. Montana put together a 20-0 run in the first half where Akoh scored a team-best four points and tallied one rebound, one assist and one steal.
After missing seven games earlier in the season, Akoh leads Montana with 16.3 points and 9.4 rebounds per game while shooting 57.4 percent from the field. The Big Sky weekly honor is the second of his career (Jan. 8, 2018).
